Rocky Gap Road repaired at Red Rock Canyon for local off-road groups and wildlife enthusiasts

LAS VEGAS, NV – On January 31, 2011 Pink Jeep Tours – Las Vegas and Las Vegas Paving restored Rocky Gap Road, a popular place for tourists and locals at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The damage from the heavy rains during December 2010 was so extensive that the Bureau of Land Management placed a temporary barrier for access from the east access point.

“We had fixed a portion of Rocky Gap Road 5 years ago when it was damaged by winter storms and we were interested in lending our resources again,” said Alix Reed the General Manager of Pink Jeep Tours – Las Vegas. “It was important in the planning of this project to keep the integrity of this natural area.”

Pink Jeep Tours approached the Bureau of Land Management about repairing Rocky Gap Road and the BLM again approved the project. Republic Services of Southern Nevada was also interested in assisting with the project. Republic Services put Pink Jeep Tours in contact with Las Vegas Paving. Las Vegas Paving generously provided 20 tons of limestone rock that is indigenous to the area. Several dedicated Pink Jeep employees volunteered their time and equipment to finish the job.

“We really appreciate the partnership, it was a great team,” said Joe Knoblock, Fleet Manager at Pink Jeep Tours. “Everyone had a lot of energy and was dedicated to completing this mission.”

Dan Peressini, Division Manager at Las Vegas Paving said, “as good stewards of this beautiful natural resource it is satisfying to be apart of a project that contributes to restoring Rocky Gap Road.”

In 2005 Pink Jeep Tours previously engaged in a repair to the same location of Rocky Gap Road. The repair was extremely successful having lasted for over 5 years. The local off-road groups and wildlife enthusiasts showed much appreciation. The materials and reconstruction will help in sustaining Rocky Gap Road against future flash floods.
